On 4 November 2006, South African Airways (SAA) announced the winners of its 20th annual Wine Awards including all wines which will feature on board the airline’s domestic, regional and international flights in 2007.
Deetlefs Estate was awarded the SAA Chief Executive Officer Trophy for the best winery in South Africa with the most listings in 2007. This trophy has previously been awarded to top wine producers such as Vergelegen and Rustenberg. Deetlefs was also runner up for the SAA Chairman’s Wine Award for the largest volume purchased by the airline, with Boland Kelder in Paarl being the winner.
The wines were chosen by 12 South African and international wine experts during a three day judging session at Nederburg in August this year, all wines were tasted blind. Over 1200 wines were entered into this prestigious annual competition. The submissions have continued to increase from previous years. Only 80 wines, less than 7% of all wines entered, were selected for 2007!
Five of Deetlefs Estate’s wines were listed with SAA for 2007 including Stonecross Chardonnay (Economy Class), Stonecross Merlot Pinotage (Economy Class), Deetlefs Estate Weisser Riesling (First and Premium Class), Deetlefs Estate Pinotage (First and Premium Class) and Deetlefs Familie Semillon (First Class).
What makes these awards even more special is the fact that Deetlefs has differentiated itself as a top quality brand which can deliver significant volumes. This is an excellent opportunity for Deetlefs as we have recently spent substantial time and effort on re-defining and designing our brand identity in taking Deetlefs Estate to the next level.
It is a great reward for the dedicated team who contribute daily to the growth and dynamic development of Deetlefs. "It is easy to conduct an orchestra, when all the musicians are professional - Kobus Deetlefs"
