Deetlefs DISCOVER A HERITAGE THAT CANNOT BE BOUGHT...
Newsletter - September 2009
This beautiful estate is situated in the picturesque Breede River Valley just outside Rawsonville at the foot of the Du Toitskloof Mountains. It has been in the Deetlefs family since 1822. Kobus Deetlefs with his family are the sixth generation to live on the farm in the original Cape Dutch homestead overlooking the magnificent award-winning gardens. Deetlefs Wine Estate is the 3rd oldest wine estate under ownership of the same family in South Africa.

An ever increasing favourite is the Deetlefs Estate Chardonnay 2007 which is not to be missed and is the perfect wine for those in-between spring days that lie ahead.

They built the Cape Dutch house, which is today known as the main homestead, in 1863. He, together with his son, established the first winery, which consisted of 5 concrete tanks and 11 vats (stukvate). The concrete tanks have been epoxy-coated and are still in use today!
